Zoom in
FILE - This Jan. 24, 2012 file photo shows the official football for the NFL Super Bowl XLVI, in Cleveland. Kids ROFL and OMG all the livelong day, but ask them to decipher the XLVI of this year's Super Bowl and you might as well be talking Greek. Roman numerals beyond the basics have largely gone the way of cursive and penmanship as a subject in the nation's schools. Super Bowl commercials keep you coming back for more

Here are some classics for you

Paul Johnson - 570 News - Globe and Mail - Canadian Press Feb 03, 2012 07:55:51 AM
You won't be able to see this year's Super Bowl commercials if you watch the game in Canada, but we're giving you some of the classics to help you pass the time.

Nothing from the "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld and no Elton John/Regis Philbin ad for Pepsi.

Those are just a couple of the Super Bowl ads that won't air here in Canada during the big game on Sunday night.

That's because CRTC rules prevent American ads from running on Canadian stations during simulcasting.

The Globe and Mail points out there is also the difference in the prices charged for Super Bowl spots.

While the American network NBC is charging $5-million (US) for a 30 second spot, Canadian network CTV charging just 130 thousand dollars by comparison.

Many of the biggest ads with the most buzz won't be airing in Canada but you will be able to catch a lot of them online.

And, because we at 570 News understand the joy of watching those commercials every year, we decided to give you some of the best to wet your appetite.  Enjoy.

Michael Jordan vs. Larry Bird for a Big Mac...

Coke guy gets caught drinking a Pepsi...

Speaking of Pepsi, what about a "young" Cindy Crawford...

The original "Wasssup" ad from Budweiser...

One of the classics - "Mean" Joe Greene for Coke...

Do you remember the Budweiser frogs?

We don't all have staff members like Terry Tate do we?

By the way, also of note when it comes to the ads on game day...it seems they are more popular with Canadians than the game itself.

That's the indication from a Harris-Decima poll for The Canadian Press.

Almost half of Canadians who don't plan to watch Sunday's game say they're still hoping to see some Super Bowl ads.

Doug Anderson of Harris-Decima says the numbers reflect how the high-production ads have become such a popular part of the event.
