3 Canadians among dead

570 News - Canadian Press Aug 25, 2010 04:28:12 AM
TORONTO - Three Canadian citizens are among those who were killed during a hostage standoff in the Philippines on Monday.

The three were among eight tourists from Hong Kong who were killed on a tour bus after a 12-hour standoff at a seaside Manila park.

The three Canadians are 58-year-old Ken Leung, and his daughters, 14-year-old Jessie and 21-year-old Doris.

Leung's 18-year-old son, Jason, remains in hospital after undergoing surgery for a head wound.

Leung's wife, Amy Ng, who was not injured, says her husband confronted the gunman before he was killed.

Two of the children went to school in Canada.

Jason Leung attended Bronte College, a private school in Mississauga, Ontario, while Doris Leung was a student at the University of Toronto.

Officials promised a full investigation into how the hijacker was able to shoot eight of the 15 hostages on the bus before a sniper killed him.

The remaining seven survived the shots fire by Rolando Mendoza, a former policeman who was demanding his job back.
