Main Street Bridge in Cambridge closed this morning
Cambridge city crews will be testing the flood wall protection system on the recently renovated main street bridge today. (Saturday)
"The Main Street Bridge was chosen this year because it recently underwent renovations which make it an ideal location to test the equipment" says Ed Kovacs, Commissioner of Transportation and public Works.
The wall will be a continuation of the current permanent flood walls or earth beams that are in place and protecting the downtown riverfront area.
The walls will be on either side of the bridge.
They expect the exercise to last about 3 hours and the closure of the main street bridge could last longer.
This training happens once a year, and it ensures that everybody in the operations department is capable of installing the wall in a timely manor.
A crew of 10 is involved.
