Anti-idling bylaw passed in Cambridge
Cambridge - Cambridge City Council is cracking down on motorists who idle their vehicles in school zones.
Last night, it passed a bylaw that would slap a $40 ticket on any motorist who lets their vehicle idle needlessly in 50 school zones, as well as in the area of the downtown civic square.
The rule would not apply to emergency vehicles, work trucks and vehicles using a handicapped lift or ramp.
The crackdown will begin in October of next year, but this morning's Record quotes City Councillor Ben Tucci as saying the new rule, “doesn’t have teeth and wouldn’t hold up in a court of law.”
He says ticketing is not the way to go.
Rather, he supports an education campaign for motorists.
