Crown stays remaining charges against Pickton

A top Vancouver police official offered an emotional apology today to the families of serial killer Robert Pickton's victims.

Deputy Chief Constable Doug Lepard says he is sorry police did not catch this ``monster'' sooner and admitted they could have done a better job.

The Supreme Court of Canada has denied the B.C. pig farmer's bid for a new trial for the murders of six women.

The sister of one of Robert Pickton's victims is pleased he will not be allowed to appeal his conviction of Georgina Papin's murder.

Cynthia Cardinal says this morning's ruling ends her family's dealings with the Port Coquitlam farmer.

But Cardinal says it means 20 first degree murder charges against Pickton likely won't proceed -- something she agrees will be hard for the loved ones of those women.

A spokesman for the Crown says it is likely those counts will be stayed.
