Waterloo explores bike parking

570 News Jun 29, 2010 14:47:14 PM
The City of Waterloo is looking for a few good cyclists to help with a new project to create a secure bicycle-parking facility and to produce a map outlining local bikeways.

Cyclists can have their say on what both elements will look like by taking a short online survey.

Manager of the City's Parking Program, Christine Tettman
tells 570 News survey results will be collected until August 15th and a public meeting will be held in September to gather more information.

Tettman says it's important to get feedback from the people who will use the facility and maps down the road.

She says city staff want to know where cyclists would like to see the parking structure installed, what kind of facility it should be and what format the map should take.

The city received half the funding from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario's Transportation Demand Management grant program. And officials say as Waterloo comes out with its first Transportation Master Plan, it cites active transportation as a key ingredient in developing a more sustainable transportation system for Waterloo.
