Getting Fired Could be Healthy

Mar 13, 2010 07:15:49 AM

Thanks for firing me!

It's a phrase you might want to think about using if you find yourself without a job.

Candice Reed is the co-author of "Thanks for Firing Me!", a book that helps people figure out what to do next.

Reed tells 570's Gary Doyle that being fired is really like a death in the family.

She also shares some tips on what to do if you do lose your job.

She says to yell and scream and let your anger out, then take some time for yourself, write down the positives and negatives of your last job, and look for a new job with those positives.

Do not just jump back into the same old career.

With the recent job losses the baby boomer generation may be finding themselves out of work, and questioning who is going to hire me now?

Reed asks that as you get older do you really want to work 40 hours a week? If you look around you can find an 'encore' job. Encore careers include lower paying, part time, or working from home jobs; jobs that allow you to have more time to do other things you enjoy.

Reed also says that if you do happen to get fired it's really just the beginning of a new chapter in your life.
