Local girl dead after crash in North Carolina

Tiffany Hendsbee Feb 21, 2012 14:40:56 PM
Weather is said to have been a factor in a crash in North Carolina yesterday that killed a Kitchener girl.

Three-year-old Azlynn Cretzman died when her family's van skidded off Interstate 74.

Mount Airy Rescue Squad Sergeant Corey Scearce was one of the first to arrive on scene. "There was van that had pretty heavy damage from a side-impact up against a support beam that holds up an interstate sign," he tells 570 News.

Scearce says the roads were icy at the time of the crash and that the area had just received it's first snow storm of the year.

Emergency officials said Azlynn's father, Matthew, and sister, Maddison, were treated for minor injuries. Her mother, Lana, has a broken leg and rib, and Scearce says he was told she was scheduled for surgery this morning.

According to reports, the Cretzmans are missionaries with ties to the Kitchener Baptist Church.
