A consultant's report, looking at the future of Waterloo's Northdale neighbourhood, goes before city council tonight.
The report, prepared by a consulting team, including MMM Group Limited, RCI Consulting and Sweeney Sterling Finlayson and Company Architects will present a recommended vision and principles for Northdale.
The recommendations are broadbased and long range with the final vision being achieved by 2029.
First and foremost, the goal is to revitalize and re-urbanize the district, taking into account the educational component, as well as residential, commercial, cultural, recreational and heritage.
There would be more open spaces and the entire district would be tied together through pedestrian, cycling and transit networks.
The neighbourhood, in the university district, has been the focus of heated debate, which included a move by roughly three dozen homeowners to sell their properties in a block auction in response to the city's decision to bring in a rental housing bylaw.
That auction fizzled when no bids were received.
