The University of Waterloo is expected to get a lot of exposure from a day long conference taking place today.
The university is hosting a TEDx event from 8:30 to 5:00.
There are a number of speakers scheduled to take the podium and Chair Prashanth Gopalan says they've received a lot of buzz leading into the event from all over the world, "This is the opportunity of a lifetime to learn more about the University of Waterloo. It's going to be one of the most anticipated events of the year and from the levels of promotion we've received from the community, I think people are going to be really excited to see what we have in store."
He expects about 200 people to be in attendance, but because they are also live streaming the conference, he predicts thousands will watch, "We wanted to do something where we can give the University of Waterloo a platform to showcase itself to the world in a different form. What in particular we'll be looking at doing with all of our speakers is have them relate how their experiences and their contributions to society have been really nurtured by the university."
Gopalan adds, "One of the most notable things about this entire event is the tremendous level of support we have received not only from the extended community in the local area, but also internationally. We received emails and social media chats and messages of encouragement and support and people are really excited to see this come to the University."
