The Giant Colon Exhibit lands in Waterloo today

570 News Feb 06, 2010 05:28:36 AM
It's an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Cancer Care Ontario and aimed at educating people about the importance of screening for colon cancer.
It's a multi-media exhibit, featuring a 40-foot long colon that you can walk through.
It will be set up at the Waterloo Town Square today and tomorrow.
Doctor Sophie Wilson, with the Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program tells 570 News colon cancer is main cause of cancer deaths among non-smokers in Ontario, claiming over 3,000 lives every year.
She says early detection is critical, because by the time you notice symptoms it's much harder to treat than if it's caught early.
