Making noise about noise

570 News Sep 27, 2010 16:20:48 PM
A group of Kitchener residents who have been dealing with noise from a neighbouring business will ask the city tonight to fix the problem.

Stewart Saunderson lives on Highbrook Street. His backyard backs onto an auto repair business.

With Byma's Tire's bay doors 80 feet from his house, Saunderson says he and his family are subjected to the sound of air-powered wrenches, P-A systems and other noise he says would come out of a NASCAR pit stop.

Byma's opened a year ago.

The developer installed a noise wall over the summer, but Saunderson says that didn't solve the problem.

He is calling for the city to force the repair shop to close its back doors so his family can get their lifestyle back.

The city's director of bylaw enforcement, Shayne Turner, says they are trying to find out if they can legally require the shop to do that.

Turner says the city will take this case into consideration when looking at site development plans in the future.
