Earlier this week I read about Ernie “Punch” McLean, who was reported missing in the wilds of northern B.C.   Punch is a legendary junior hockey coach who led the New Westminster Bruins to Memorial Cup glory back in the 70′s.  He also ran the Estevan Bruins in Saskatchwan, which is the team I was the play-by-play voice for five years.   That’s where I met him.  Punch survived a plane crash,  millions of bus miles and the ravages of bad arena coffee.  I was not surprised to hear this morning that he had been found, safe and sound, and wondering what the fuss was about.  Afterall,  he’s only in his mid-70′s.  Why would anybody worry about this tough old boot?    Glad you’re safe Punch,  next time at least take a thermos of Tims with you when you go hiking.
