WRPS lay almost 800 charges during Canada Road Safety Week

Waterloo Regional Police laid a total of 789 road safety charges during Canada Road Safety Week.

Here is the breakdown:

-Impaired Related Charges: 33

-Aggressive Driving Charges: 294

-Distracted Driving Charges (Handheld Device): 84

-Seatbelt Charges: 17

-Other Traffic Charges: 361

In 2017, WRPS officers laid 704 charges.

“Road safety is a key priority for our police service every day,” said Waterloo Regional Police Chief Bryan Larkin. “We will continue to enforce these initiatives on a daily bases so we can make sure our roads are as safe as they can be. We need motorists to understand that their behaviour on the road doesn’t just affect them. It affects everyone they share the road with. It is vital that we all work together to keep our roads safe so we can save lives and reduce injuries.”

Canada Road Safety Week runs May 15th through to the 22nd, with the focus on impaired driving, aggressive driving and distracted driving.
