Local officers take part in 31st annual Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympics

Waterloo Regional Police officers and civilians geared up with running shoes Thursday morning as they took part in the 31st annual Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympics.

Police Chief Bryan Larkin says throughout the months of May and June officers are raising funds for local Special Olympians.

“It’s really all about supporting Special Olympians and raising funds for the great work that they do,” says Larkin. “Of course we have a number of local athletes that are heading to the games in Halifax this year so we’re really proud.”

Local athlete Andrew says it was great seeing so much support from the community.

“I’m very proud of them, they did very good. I appreciate their support.”

“Each year we try to raise $2-million across Ontario for local special athletes,” says Larkin. “It’s really about giving, and inspiring hope and it’s a great day for us to spend time with all of them.”

This evening, officers head to Lone Star Texas Grill in Cambridge for the annual Cops & Cowboys event from 5pm-9pm.
