GRCA warning of high water levels

Depending on where you are in Waterloo Region, you saw probably between 15 and 30 millimeters of rain in less than 24 hours.

Lisa Stocco with the GRCA says the then issued a statement warning of high water levels throughout the Regions rivers and streams.

“We’ve issued a Water Condition Statement with respect to water safety. We just want people to know that flows in the rivers and streams may be elevated.”

Stocco adds the rain is actually welcome right now.

“Our focus right now is on filling the reservoirs. The reservoirs serve a dual purpose, they mitigate flood risk. But we also fill reservoirs so we can add water to the rivers in the drier months”.

She went on to say river banks are still extremely slippery and water bodies are extremely cold so everyone should keep their distance.
