Transportation symposium aims to reduce our carbon footprint in K-W

The world is trying to reduce its carbon emissions footprint, and that includes a group here in Waterloo Region.

The #MovingWR Transportation Symposium at Kitchener City Hall on Sunday gave everyone options on how they can positively impact the environment. They include electric vehicles and bicycles to name a few.

Tova Davidson with Sustainable Waterloo Region says it may be difficult right now to ‘go green’, but help is forthcoming.

“We understand that this is a car dependant community, but there is the LRT and the rapid adoption of electric vehicle technology with a 200% increase last year”.

Davidson adds a significant amount of Greenhouse gas emissions from our region comes from commuters.

“The climate action plan which looks at our community wide carbon emissions and reduction targets showed 49% comes from transportation”.
