This article is more than 5 years old.
There is over a billion users on YouTube worldwide, and nearly five billion YouTube videos watched every day.
A new program, Broadcast Performance and Digital Media, offered at Conestoga College is offering the skills needed to capture some of that massive market.
Kyle Christie is an anchor with CP24 and instructor in the broadcast television program — he is also one of the creators of this new program.
He says the media landscape is changing and there is a need for a program that can keep up with those changes.
“We realized the training people want and the training people need,” says Christie.
According to Christie, more students are looking online first, when it comes to an avenue for broadcasting.
“We had conversations with people and they say, ‘That is such a great idea, but I don’t know where to start,’ well this is where you start. This is where you are able to take that passion and turn it into something,” Christie says.
Broadcast Performance and Digital Media is a one-year post grad program.
Christie says it is perfect for anyone with a passion who wants to share it.
“It’s about taking whatever it is you are passionate about, and creating a brand, and spending a year building that brand, and putting it out there for the world to see,” says Christie.
The program will teach you how to write, shoot and edit high quality content, but more than that Christie says the program will give a competitive edge over others in a highly saturated field.
“It’s about setting yourself apart from people who are already doing it,” says Christie. “People are making money online, so this is a way to make sure you are ahead of the game producing high-quality content that people will want to view.”
Applications for the first ever Broadcast Performance and Digital Media class are now open.
