Guelph man charged for robbery; police say he was “throwing away cash”

Police in Guelph say they caught an alleged robber who was spotted thowing away the money he had just stolen.

Around 4 a.m. today, officers responded to a call for a knife-point robbery at a business on Silvercreek Parkway North.

During their investigation, they also discovered a smashed window at another business on the same street and say items appeared to have been taken.

Police were able to identify the robbery suspect, who was soon spotted at a nearby parking lot on Silvercreek, making odd hand gestures.

Officers say the suspect had been “throwing away cash that was taken in the robbery.”

“The K9 unit had been dispatched to assist with the robbery, but was redeployed to assist with the break and enter,” they say, “Police Service Dog (PSD) Charger was able to locate items that appear to be related to both the robbery and the break and enter.”

Police recovered the cash, and arrested and charged the 24-year old man for both the armed robbery and for the break-in.
