Guelph storms back to defeat Rangers in OT

It looked like the Kitchener Rangers were well on their way to their 22nd road win of the season in Guelph on Tuesday.

Kitchener was up 3-0 heading into the third period, but the Storm would score three to get the game to overtime. Isaac Ratcliffe would notch his 39th of the season to give Guelph the 4-3 win.

Riley Damiani would pot a pair for the Rangers.

“…I’ve been in kind of a slump as of late, just told myself to keep it simple, drive the net. My linemates made some really good plays tonight, they were on. When you go to the net, good things are going
to happen, so.” said Damiani, who’s now up to 19 goals on the season.

Kitchener’s head coach says his team had plenty of chances to win.

“We had our opportunities to close them out and get some insurance goals, we didn’t do it. We let them stick around in the game…If you look at the overtime winner, we had a player give up on the backcheck
and that’s the difference of winning and losing.” said Jay McKee.

Shots were 40-26 in favour of Kitchener.

The Rangers play their final road game of the regular season on Wednesday in Sarnia. 570 NEWS has the pre-game show at 6:35 p.m.

The team has also set the first two home playoff dates. Kitchener will open at home on Friday, March 23rd at 7:30 p.m. with Game 2 to follow on Sunday, March 25th at 7 p.m.

Guelph moved up to sixth following Tuesday’s win, so as of now, the Rangers would be matched up against Windsor in the first round.
