Charges laid after vehicle fire, collision with WRPS cruiser

Two people face a number of charges after reportedly setting a vehicle on fire, being caught in a stolen vehicle, and crashing into a police cruiser.

Regional Police say around 2:40 a.m., officers responded to the area near Spragues Road and Beke Road in North Dumfries Township after reports a pick-up truck was on fire.

Police say two people were seen leaving the area in a burgundy Chevrolet Avalanche, which was suspected to be stolen.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver refused.

The same vehicle was spotted hearing south on Hespeler Road in Cambridge, where it crashed into a Regional Police cruiser and another officer’s off-duty vehicle.

Brant County OPP say the two suspects were eventually tracked down in Brantford on Powerline Road, and were arrested.

Both people face a number of charges including Arson, Theft and Possession of Stolen Property Over – and Under $5,000, Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving and Fail to Report Accident.
