Kitchener man in custody for cocaine smuggling

A 48-year old Kitchener man is in custody after he attempted to smuggle cocaine into the country from Aruba.

Courtenay Burke tried to bring in more than a kilogram of the banned substance inside a golf bag, along with golf clubs.

Corporal Louise Savard with the RCMP details how the investigation got underway on February 28, 2018.

” C.B.S.A (Canada Border Services Agency) officers conducted an investigation of an international parcel. Tests determined the parcel concealed suspected cocaine. C.B.S.A turned the parcel over to the RCMP for furthur investigation and this resulted in a search warrant being executed”.

Burke has been charged with 2 violations under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and 2 violations under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Burke has a video appearance on March 12, 2018 at which time a bail hearing will be scheduled.
