Province announces 10-year, $713M agreement extension with U of Guelph

A long-standing partnership between the province and the University of Guelph will continue for at least another 10 years.

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and U of G will be looking to build on a long-standing collaboration over the last 125 years to complete world-class agri-food research, including new advances in artificial intelligence, big data analytics and precision agriculture.

They’ll also look at food safety, and the protection of plant, animal and human health.

Students are also expected to be equipped with skills to work in the growing agri-food sector.

The agreement also comes with an investment of up to $713-million dollars.

Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Jeff Leal joined University of Guelph President Dr. Franco Vaccarino to sign the agreement as part of Canada’s Agriculture Day.
