TSB investigating fatal crash involving train in Breslau

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after a fatal collision involving a train on Wurster Place in Breslau.

Regional Police say it happened Thursday afternoon at the train tracks on Wurster just past Kramp Road- and one person is dead as a result.

Inspector John Goodman with WRPS says it involved a delivery vehicle and a VIA passenger train.

“A delivery vehicle was involved in a crash with the train in the area of Wurster Place. We have one fatality – the driver of the vehicle.”

Goodman says there’s debris scattered across the roadway, and the vehicle sustained a significant amount of damage.

No other information has been released, except that Road Safety Investigators are on scene, and the Transportation Safety Board is now investigating.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area, there’s no word on how long investigators will remain on scene.

 

VIA Rail Canada has released the following statement to 570 NEWS.

An incident occurred earlier today near Kitchener, Ontario, involving a westbound train travelling from Toronto to London (#85) and a road vehicle. No injuries were reported among the 54 passengers onboard and the crew members. VIA Rail is collaborating with local authorities who are currently investigating the cause of the incident. VIA Rail acknowledges that this situation has an impact on the travel plans of our customers. We are focusing our efforts into bringing travellers currently en-route to their final destinations as quickly and as safely as possible. We are sincerely sorry for all inconveniences this situation causes.
