SIU clears WRPS in interaction with man in Kitchener

The province’s Special Investigations Unit has ended its probe into an interaction in Kitchener last year between a 52-year-old man and Waterloo Regional Police officers.

It’s concluded there’s no evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of any of the officers.

The SIU says the man was taken into custody during the evening hours of November 27th in the area of Charles and Benton, accused of public intoxication.

The man was released the following morning but later told police he’d suffered a serious injury.

However, since that time, the SIU has been unable to track down the man – he has no fixed address.

SIU Director Tony Loparco says, ” video evidence of the man’s interaction with officers shows no evidence of any criminal behaviour on the part of any officer, but in fact shows the officers treating him gently and with respect. As such, I have terminated this investigation.”
