Knights crown Kitchener

By Chris Pope

It was the third game in four nights for both teams, and at times it showed.

The Kitchener Rangers hosted the London Knights Sunday, coming off a win on Thursday in London, and a come from behind win Saturday versus the Saginaw Spirit.

The Knights returned the favour Sunday night at the Aud and clipped Kitchener 2-1, stopping the Rangers’ mini two-game winning streak.

“There were times I thought we played really well and created a lot of offence,” said Rangers head coach Jay McKee. “Then there were times we had lapses, where it looked like we got in at 2:30 in the morning.”

The team did in fact, get in at about 2:30 a.m. from Saginaw Sunday. Kitchener and London have now split the season series at 2-2, with two more meetings left.

Riley Damiani scored the lone Rangers goal; his 14th of the season, and 50th point of his Ontario Hockey League career. He was the only Ranger player who could beat Jordan Kooy, who made 38 saves.

“When you throw up to close to 40 shots and walk away with only one goal, it’s frustrating,” said McKee, pointing out the three-in-four takes its toll on the players.

“We don’t want to look for excuses. We want to find ways to compete through these games and find ways to win.”

Their next chance will be Wednesday, when they’re in Niagara against former Ranger Elijah Roberts and the IceDogs.
