Animals killed in one of two separate fires this weekend in Waterloo Region

Some pigs and other livestock were killed in a barn fire in Wellesley early Sunday morning.

Regional Police say fire crews were called to the barn on Hessen Strasse just before 3 a.m., for an electrical fire they say caused up to $400,000 in damage.

Most of the barn animals, including cows, were able to escape safely.

That wasn’t the only blaze firefighters battled this weekend.

On Saturday morning, police say an auto garage on Conestogo Road in Waterloo went up in flames, after the engine of one of the vehicles in the shop sparked a fire.

The flames spread to the rest of the building, and damage is pegged at around $10,000.

Neither blaze is considered suspicious.
