Back-to-back transport truck crashes shut down 401 at Cedar Creek, drivers charged

Eastbound lanes of Highway 401 have reopened at Cedar Creek, after a pair of back-to-back transport truck crashes shut them down over the Friday afternoon rush hour.

It started just before 2 p.m. near the Homer Watson exit, when three transport trucks were involved in a chain-reaction rear-end collision. Just a short while later, two more tractor trailers crashed just east of Cedar Creek.

Eastbound 401 lanes had to be closed from Cedar Creek to Homer Watson as a result, which caused a serious headache for motorists in a hurry to head into the last weekend of 2017.

All lanes reopened on the Highway just before 6 p.m. Friday.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says minor injuries were reported, and both drivers have been charged with careless driving.
