U19 FIBA basketball champions pick up Canadian Press team of year honours

TORONTO – Canada’s under-19 basketball team is the Canadian Press Team of the Year for 2017.
The squad was chosen in a poll of broadcasters and sports editors from across the country after winning the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup title in July.
The team picked up 27 per cent of the votes.
MLS Cup champions Toronto FC and Brad Gushue’s world champion curling rink tied for second with 16 per cent.
Canada upset the Americans in the semifinals at last summer’s World Cup, then defeated Italy for gold.
No Canadian basketball team had ever won a world title before.
