Grand River Hospital declares influenza outbreak at Freeport Campus

Grand River Hospital out with a warning, as an outbreak of Influenza A has been declared at its Freeport Campus in Kitchener.

Staff says it comes as four patients in their Rehab and Complex Continuing Care units are showing symptoms consistent with influenza.

As a result, the hospital is taking several steps to keep the illness from spreading, including isolating the affected patients.

Visitors are also being limited, and the units are receiving an ‘aggressive cleaning’.

GRH says it will review the status of the outbreak, and post an update when one is available. A unit must be free of new influenza cases for five days, before an outbreak can be lifted.

They’re reminding us that colds, influenza, and stomach viruses can be more difficult for hospitalized patients than the general public. Any potential visitors experiencing flu-like symptoms should stay away from the hospital, until they’re feeling better.
