City of Waterloo approves Rec Centre expansion

Waterloo City Council has decided to move ahead with plans for a major expansion to the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.

The $26.6 million dollar expansion will see the creation of a new Older Adult Recreation Centre.

The expansion will include an activity court and exercise studios, as well as a variety of program spaces aimed towards older adults.

When completed, the expansion will take the place of the older adult recreation services running in Uptown Waterloo and in north Waterloo.

The next step is for the city to begin taking design proposals and construction drawings.

Construction is not set to begin until 2019 and is expected to take 24 months to complete.
