Rangers come from behind, again

By Chris Pope

For the third straight game, the Kitchener Rangers were forced to come from behind.

The Erie Otters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but the Rangers answered and topped the Otters 3-2 in overtime.

“We stressed coming out ready and being into it and I don’t think we were,” said Kitchener head coach Jay McKee. “Every win is a good win and it’s good to see the guys are able to come back from deficits like we have the past couple games, but we certainly want to get out to better starts.”

It’s the second straight overtime win for the Rangers. Adam Mascherin notched the winner on an end-to-end rush, slapping home a rebound for his team leading 16th of the season.

Adam Liska earned a goal and an assist earning first star honours, while Greg Meireles scored in his third straight game.

“We’ve got a really good team,” said Meireles. “I think we just have to come to the rink a little more focused and more prepared to play and we’ll keep winning games.”

Luke Richardson picked up his eleventh win of the season standing tall, after allowing two goals in the first six minutes, stopping 31 shots.

“We’re never out of games,” said Richardson. “I just need to have a better start. Tonight, it wasn’t the best start but I thought I rebounded well throughout the game.”

Kitchener has won all four games against the Otters this season. The Rangers are back at home on Tuesday night, when they host the Windsor Spitfires in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game.
