OPP concerned as crashes increase on 401 through Cambridge

Provincial Police are out with reminders for drivers that frequently travel down Highway 401 through Cambridge.

They say motorists need to be respectful, and adjust their speed through the construction zone between Hespeler Road and Highway 8.

Cambridge OPP say one in every four crashes that their detachment responds to happen in that stretch.

Between 2015 and 2016, the amount of charges issued to drivers between Hespeler and Homer Watson rose by 53 per cent.

In a release. OPP Sgt. Mraud of the Cambridge Detachment says road safety is the collective responsibility of all road users, not just the police.

“If we all slow down, be aware of our surroundings and leave a safe travelling distance between vehicles, together we can make a difference and contribute to the orderly movement of traffic through this area.”
