Waterloo’s Berger commits to NCAA D1 school

What turned into a very long Sunday was likely well worth it for Jenna Berger.

The St. David Catholic Secondary student officially signed with UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon. UMass is an NCAA Division 1 school located just north of Boston.

Berger has been fine tuning her game at the A & C Field Hockey Academy in Toronto and was doing exactly that Sunday, putting in five hours on the practice field.

“Honestly…words can’t even describe how happy I am in knowing that all my hard work over the past four years has paid off, it’s an incredible feeling.” said the 16-year-old Berger.

She adds that since she started playing field hockey, going to a Division 1 school has always been the goal.

“…When I didn’t have practice, I was always up at St. David’s, training and working hard to get where I am today.” added Berger.

Berger says she will probably go in as undeclared in her first year, then branch off into business.

In addition to playing for St. David, she was also part of Team Ontario and the Canadian Indoor Series.

She also isn’t the first member of the Berger family to land at an NCAA school. Her older brother Hayden plays lacrosse for Adrian College in Michigan.
