The Mayor of Cambridge has issued a statement following a funding announcement which aims to help prevent local opioid addiction and overdoses.

Doug Craig has seen first-hand the effect the opioid crisis has had on his community, as numerous groups have come together to help clean-up discarded needles around that City.

It was announced on Thursday that our province is committing over 2.3 million dollars in funding to help tackle the issue locally in Waterloo-Wellington.

In a statement released yesterday, Craig says “This funding will make a major difference in terms of strengthening front-line services and enabling a timely response for those who are struggling.”

He adds that the City has formed a Community Outreach Task Force in an effort to share solutions across the region, and develop a coordinated response.
