A homecoming for Waterloo’s Playfair

He may play for the Windsor Spitfires, but Chris Playfair has plenty of fans in our region.

Many of those family and friends will be heading to The Aud Friday night, when the Spits take on the Kitchener Rangers. 570 NEWS has the pre-game show at 7 p.m.

“It’s going to be pretty special to be able to play in front of my friends and family, in a rink, I grew up watching so many games there.” Playfair said about playing at The Aud for the first time.

Ranger fans will love the fact the 17-year-old scored his first OHL goal against the Knights in London in Windsor’s second game of the season. “To have some of my friends and family there, it was pretty special…”

While he didn’t get to play in it, Playfair took on a key role in helping his team prepare for the 2017 Memorial Cup. The team was split in two in practice and he was put on the team that would mimic the play of the teams they would face at the junior hockey showcase. “It was just an incredible experience to be a part of that. To be on the ice and lift the (Memorial) Cup…It was a moment I will never forget.”

The Rangers doubled the Spits 4-2 in the first meeting of the season. The two teams will close out a home and home in Windsor on Saturday night.
