Ager Hasan applies for bail ahead of extradition hearing

Court documents filed by Ager Hasan’s lawyers show the man charged with the murder of Melinda Vasilije has applied for bail.

In the documents, his lawyers argue Hasan does not pose a flight risk, and asks the judge to consider the motion during Hasan’s extradition hearing.

The district attorney has opposed the motion.

Vasilije was found dead in her Kitchener home in late April and police have said she died of multiple stab wounds.

Hasan was quickly identified as a suspect and police issued a Canada-wide warrant for him after determining that he had fled to the U.S.

He was arrested by the United States Secret Service in July while conducting a traffic stop in San Antonio, Texas, as part of a counterfeit currency investigation.

Police are now working to get Hasan extradited back to Canada to face charges including one count of second-degree murder.
