Hawk-eyed, Laurier earns first round bye in playoffs

The football team at Laurier knew what they had to do in their final game of the regular season and they did so in convincing fashion.

The Golden Hawks cruised to a 40-15 win over McMaster at University Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It also halted McMaster’s five game winning streak.

It means Laurier earns a first round bye in the OUA Playoffs, finishing the regular season 6 and 2.

The Hawks will host a semi-final game on November 4th, their opponent has yet to be determined. The quarter-finals are set for October 28th.

A few Golden Hawks also set records on Saturday.

Receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. now holds the single season reception record in Canadian university football. He finished with 75 on the season.

Golden Hawks defensive lineman Robbie Smith set a new school record with 10.5 sacks.

Meantime, the Warriors just missed out on their first playoff appearance since 2003 as Queen’s defeated the U of T.

The University of Waterloo lost their last four games to finish the season 4 and 4.
