Driver wanted after OPP cruiser rammed twice near Fairview Mall

Provincial police are trying to track down a suspect vehicle, after the driver allegedly rammed into a police cruiser twice this morning.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says it all started around 4 a.m. Thursday on Highway 8 near Fairway Road.

“Officers were out patrolling the highways and observed a vehicle driving erratically. The officer followed the vehicle into a parking lot, and went to speak to the driver. That interaction did not last very long, as the driver of that vehicle proceeded to smash into the side of the police car.”

Schmidt says the vehicle then drove a short distance, where it turned around, and struck the police vehicle again.

“The vehicle then fled the area, and was last seen leaving the parking lot. We did not continue to engage in any type of activity with this person, as obviously he was not proceeding with any care or consideration.”

On Friday, Schmidt confirmed that the vehicle used in the incident was in fact stolen from Hamilton.

“Weapons were used in that theft in Hamilton, and the driver may be armed.”

Schmidt says the Mitsubishi was spotted in the Kitchener area on Friday afternoon.

Schmidt says anyone with information is asked to contact Regional Police, OPP, or Crime Stoppers.
