Ottawa becomes first Canadian city to test driverless cars on public roads

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson was along for the ride during what was billed as the first on-street test of an autonomous vehicle in Canada.

The self-driving car equipped with BlackBerry QNX software hit the road in suburban Ottawa yesterday.

General Manager John Wall says the test was the first public fruits of the BlackBerry QNX autonomous vehicle innovation centre that opened in Ottawa late last year.

The street was closed for the public demonstration but the car is expected to be operating on city streets in the test area.
