A Guelph man has been charged after a police officer was exposed to suspected fentanyl while investigating a crash.
Guelph Police say it happened when the officer was responding to a crash at Speedvale and Woolwich on September 27.
The officer found a pile of white powder inside one of the vehicles, and was subsequently taken to a Guelph hospital to be treated and tested.
Police believe the drug may have been fentanyl, and have since sent it out to Health Canada for further analysis.
Guelph Police say 50-year-old Terry Maloney faces charges including careless driving and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
They’re reminding us of the dangers of opioids like fentanyl and carfentanil, and say they can be deadly if we touch them, or if they become airborne.
