Stanley’s impact on Rangers immediate

By Chris Pope

It didn’t take long for Logan Stanley to have an impact in his Kitchener Rangers debut.

Thirty-two seconds into the game against this former team, his former teammate Luke Boka banked the puck off Stanley and past Rangers goalie Anthony Dumont-Bouchard.

But, the man known as “Big Stan” responded in a big way. He earned the lone assist on Jake Henderson’s game-winning goal, and then added an insurance marker.

The Rangers downed the Spitfires 4-2.

Head Coach Jay McKee says the impact Stanley brings isn’t just on the scoresheet.

“I think he has a real ripple effect,” says McKee. “He can go up against top lines, and that allows everyone else to take a step back against who they play against and the amount of ice they have. It really puts guys in a position to succeed.”

The team is hoping to succeed tonight in the second of three games in three nights, when they welcome the Owen Sound Attack to the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

In anticipation of the busy schedule, the team left Wednesday for Windsor, staying over, and giving the players the day Thursday ahead of the game against the Spitfires last night.

“We’re very fortunate to have the management and staff we do, giving us that opportunity,” says McKee. “They’re giving our players the respect to come in here like a pro team would. The guys get good meals in them, they get a good sleep, some team bonding, a pregame skate in the morning, before going back for a nice lunch and a little nap before we come back here and play.”

The Rangers have led after two periods in each of their games this season.

Broadcast time tonight on 570 NEWS is 7:00 p.m.
