Laurier takes unbeaten record on the road Saturday afternoon to Kingston

The Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team are on the road for the first time this year in Kingston.

The Queen’s Gaels are 0-2 but the team has lost both games by a combined 6 points.

Laurier is not taking this team lightly, and are expecting a close matchup this week similar to the game last week against Carleton.

“Queen’s is really strong on the defensive side of the ball,” says Laurier Golden Hawks Head Coach Michael Faulds. “They didn’t give up a defensive touchdown in their last game so they are a really solid defensive team.”

Laurier Running Back Dre Gordon is coming off a career high 200+ yards rushing last week.

The Golden Hawks offense will give the Gaels defense a tough challenge.

Queen’s aren’t just solid defensively, they also have some really strong weapons on offence.

“They’ve got the play makers, they’ve had a little bit of bad luck early in the season and that’s why they are 0-2,” says Faulds. “We’ve been telling our team that this is really a 2-0 caliber-type football team, and obviously this is our first road game of the year so it presents a challenge.”

Laurier is treating this as a business trip to try and extend the win streak to three games, and to stay unbeaten.

“It’s kind of us against the world mentality,” says Coach Faulds. “We’re going for a reason, we aren’t going to sight-see Kingston, we are going to check in to a hotel, eat meals, stay hydrated and play a good quality football game against the Gaels.”

Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m., Saturday at Richardson Stadium in Kingston.
