Positive hiring climate anticipated for the Waterloo Region

Good news if you’re looking for a job in the region.

Employers expect a positive hiring climate for the fourth quarter of 2017.

Erica Melarangili, Manager for ManpowerGroup Employment’s Kitchener Office says 1,900 employers were surveyed across Canada. “Those that fell within Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge area the data came back as we’re seeing 8 per cent of our employers are planning to hire for the final quarter of the year.”

Melarangili says 5 per cent of employers in our region plan to make cutbacks. “A lot of what we’re seeing in terms of cut backs, they’re not really [cut backs]. What they are, are just the peak for that individual company, that peak period has passed. It’s not a necessarily a negative.”

She says 85 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in October to December.

She says the types of jobs ManpowerGroup is seeing an increase in here at home is in the manufacturing sector, customer service sector, and food production sector.

She adds the 2017 fourth quarter prediction is a decrease of 3 percentage points from last year at the same time.
