Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Hydro One Ltd. Instalment Receipts (TSX:H.IR). Utilities. Up 75 cents, or 1.94 per cent, to $39.50 on 12.3 million shares.

Prometic Life Sciences Inc. (TSX:PLI). Biotechnology. Up 14 cents, or 9.33 per cent, to $1.64 on 5.2 million shares.

Lundin Mining Corp. (TSX:LUN). Miner. Down six cents, or 0.62 per cent, to $9.69 on 4.7 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Down two cents, or 0.81 per cent, to $2.44 on 4.4 million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Up 18 cents, or 1.61 per cent, to $11.39 on 3.8 million shares.

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Miner. Down 28 cents, or 1.84 per cent, to $14.90 on 3.4 million shares.

Bank of Nova Scotia (TSX:BNS). Bank. Up 39 cents, or 0.50 per cent, to $77.72 on 1.5 million shares. Scotiabank signed a 20-year, $800-million agreement with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment to have the Air Canada Centre renamed Scotiabank Arena, beginning in July 2018.

Home Capital Group Inc. (TSX:HCG). Financial Services. Up 12 cents, or 0.91 per cent, to $13.36 on 357,187 shares. The Toronto-based alternative lender is standing behind Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway bid to increase its stake in the company after leading proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services advised investors to vote against the deal.

National Bank of Canada (TSX:NA). Bank. Up $1.87, or 3.37 per cent, to $57.29 on 1.9 million shares. National Bank reported $518 million of net income for its third quarter, up eight per cent from last year and ahead of analyst estimates. The profit was equal to $1.37 per common share of net income or $1.39 per share after excluding certain items. The Montreal-based company’s total revenue was up eight per cent at $1.68 billion.
