Charges pending in fatal collision on the 401 outside of London

Two people are dead after a fatal collision on the 401 outside of London.

Constable Adam Crewdson with Elgin County OPP says it happened around 4 p.m Tuesday afternoon, when a pick up truck travelling eastbound crossed the median, and struck a van travelling westbound.

“Fire had to extricate one person out of the truck, and the three individuals out of the van. As well, paramedics transported the involved parties to hospital. We did have two fatalities, so we had a 42-year-old Sarah Payne, and her daughter which is a 5-year-old, of London.”

A 6-year-old boy in the van is in stable condition in hospital.

The driver of the pick-up truck, a 56 year old Cambridge man, is also in stable condition.

Constable Crewdson says charges are pending the completion of an investigation.

As a result of the crash, the 401 was closed for several hours between Iona Road and Currie Road.
