Work to begin on new Cambridge multi-use trail this week

A new two kilometre, three metre wide, asphalt trail is coming to Cambridge.

It’s set to run along Conestoga Boulevard from Pinebush Road to Dunbar Road, and is meant to accommodate all different types of recreation.

The trail will also connect to other trail networks throughout the City, including the Northview Heights Trail, which starts on the south side of Can-Amera Parkway.

“This has been probably about 10 years in development, both in conjunction with on-route bikeways as well as off-road trails, we’re developing a system that helps people get around,” explained City of Cambridge Engineer, James Etienne on the Jennifer Campbell Show Wednesday morning.

The $1 million bill is being covered by the City, the Region of Waterloo and a provincial grant from the Ontario Municipal Cycling Program.

“Looking at about three months of construction, starting this week, that will take construction probably into November, weather permitting,” says Etienne.

Commuters can breathe a sigh of relief, there are no road closures scheduled for the duration of the project, but Etienne warns we could see some partial lane reductions and flagging if crews are working closer to the road.
