Regional Police probe break and enters in student housing buildings

Regional Police are out with a reminder to students to lock their doors.

At least six rooms in buildings on King Street North and Spruce Street in Waterloo were broken into over the weekend.

Electronics including laptops, phones and video game consoles were taken.

The break-ins were discovered when students returned to their rooms after being away and all rooms centred were left unlocked.

Police are urging students to keep windows and doors locked–and to be vigilant of their surroundings and report anything suspicious.

They’re also providing the following tips to prevent further break and enters:

– Keep valuables such as laptops and other expensive electronics out of sight.
– Don’t leave boxes of expensive items outside your residence. This will let burglars know you have new items inside.
– Use a light timer to help your residence look occupied when you aren’t there.
– Keep lists of the make, model and serial numbers of your electronic items or other valuables to help police locate them if they are stolen. Take photographs of jewellery and other valuables.
– Don’t let anyone into a secured building that you don’t know.
