Proposed $2M revamp project for Queen Street in downtown Kitchener

A proposal by the City of Kitchener’s planning committee could see some big changes to a portion of Queen Street, in downtown Kitchener.

The city is considering a $2 million project that will revamp the downtown core.

Some of the ideas the city has include living and breathing street walls, bike shelters, some innovative lighting ideas and possible water features through out the Queen Street corridor.

Queen Street is anchored to the north and south by Heritage Conservation Districts and if this project gets the go ahead it could potentially establish the missing link between them and the downtown.

Slated to take place between Duke and Charles Street this project would also improve nightlife in the area and add an art experience along the Queen Street corridor to highlight the architectural landmarks.

The proposal will be considered by the city’s planning committee on Monday and if the proposal is approved construction could start in 2019.
