Man, 68, charged after WestJet attendant allegedly assaulted

A 68-year-old Vancouver man is scheduled to appear in court Saturday for a bail hearing after he was accused of striking a flight attendant aboard a WestJet flight

Peel police say they were called to Pearson airport just after noon on Friday after WestJet Flight 709 bound for Vancouver was forced to turn back after encountering a bird strike.

Police say during the return, a passenger became unruly and allegedly assaulted a female flight attendant and caused minor internal damage to the bathroom on the plane.

Police met the aircraft after it arrived at the gate in Toronto and escorted a man off the plane.

Randy Pahloko is facing charges of assault, two counts of mischief and endangering an aircraft.

The incident comes just one day after an Air Canada flight en route to Hungary was forced to return to Pearson after an unruly passenger was allegedly involved in an altercation that left a flight attendant injured. A 57-year-old man from Hamilton has been charged with uttering death threats, aggravated assaulted and endangering an aircraft while in flight.
